This converted airstrip is used as a test track on the popular British TV show Top Gear. The site near Dunsfold, Surrey, is host to several key segments of the programme, such as pre-recorded challenges from the presenters, 'power laps' (a sports car doing a timed lap each week at the hands of 'The Stig' (Top Gear test driver)), and 'star in a reasonably priced car' (celebrities invited to set lap times in a Chevrolet Lacetti). The track has also been featured as a bonus in a few racing games.
The current track record from a car is 59.0 seconds by The Stig in a Renault F1 car in 2004.
