Soccer City Stadium, Johannesburg
mattsanger92 (07/08/2010) Soccer City Stadium, in Johannesburg (South Africa), is a 94,700-capacity (temporarily 84,500) football stadium that was rebuilt for the purpose of hosting matches during the 2010 FIFA World Cup, including 5 Group Stage matches, 1 Second Round match, a Quarter-Final game, and the Final itself. The stadium was built with the World Cup in mind, as the outside design resembles a traditional African cooking pot (the 'calabash'), while the seat design reveals 10 lines - 9 point to the other venues in South Africa, while the 10th points to Berlin (Germany) (venue of the last FIFA World Cup Final). After the World Cup, the stadium is expected to be used by the South African national team for most of their home matches, with local club Kaiser Chiefs playing their big fixtures here. It could also be used for national cup finals, but will forever be remembered for hosting the 19th version of the world's biggest football match... |
