This was originally a French luxury yacht named Ancerville.  In 1973, China purchased the ship and used it for various purposes, eventually permanently placing it in Shekou as a hotel and entertainment complex.  The coastline used to reach the ship, but was reclaimed in order to construct the adjacent golf course and other recreational facilities.
