This site, in Cape Roydes (NZ Ross Dependency (Antarctica)), is the site of the hut where explorer Sir Ernest Shackleton and his team were based during the Imperial Trans-Antarctic Expedition (1914-17). For this reason, the area is now protected by the WMF.
