The Santa Pod Raceway was Europe's first drag racing strip, built in 1966.  It sits on the abandoned RAF Podington airfield.  The world drag record (3.58 seconds at 386.26 mph) was set at Santa Pod by Sammy Miller in 1984. 

Obviously, there's was an event at the time of this photo.  You can see cars lined up towards the top of the track.
