The Port of Calais represents the closest point of France to England, and is the first area that most English ferry-goers will see when coming onto French territory via the English Channel. It is said that on a clear day, a person in the Port of Calais can see the White Cliffs of Dover on the other side, an impressive feat for two landmarks that are 21 miles away from each other.
