The Estadio do Maracana, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, is a football stadium, and the home of local rivals Flamengo and Fluminense. Other Rio-based teams have used the ground, such as Botafogo and Vasco da Gama, with the Brazil national team also playing there regulary. At 90,000 seats, it is the largest stadium in South America. It was built to host the final match of the 1950 FIFA World Cup between Brazil and Uruguay (which holds the record attendance for a football match, almost 200,000), and is due to be the venue of the 2014 Final. The Maracana will also be used in Rio's 2016 Olympics, hosting the opening and closing ceremonies along with some of the football events.
