The Kawarau River and Kawarau Bridge have a few claims to fame:

  • The River was featured in the Lord of the Rings films, both as the Great River Anduin and the setting for the Pillars of the King.
  • In 1998, the Bridge was the site of the first commercial bungie jumping operation.
