Eggborough Power Station, North Yorkshire
Froppence (10/15/2009) Eggborough Power Station is a large coal-fired power station in North Yorkshire, England, capable of co-firing biomass. It is siuated on the River Aire, between the towns of Knottingley and Snaith, deriving its name from the nearby village of Eggborough. The station has a generating capacity of 1,960 megawatts. Opened in 1966 to utilise nearby coal-reserves, the station was initially operated by the Central Electricity Generating Board, before being handed over to National Power following privatisation in 1990. The station is currently operated by British Energy. |
