Christ the Redeemer (known locally as O Cristo Redentor) is a 130ft-tall statue of Jesus Christ in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. It was opened in 1931, and was designed to overlook the city. It is recognised as a local and national landmark, and was chosen as one of the 'New Seven Wonders of the World' in 2006. The site also has a Catholic chapel.
