Beelitz-Heilstatten was originally build in 1900 as a mental ward.  It was converted into a military hospital during WWI -- Adolf Hitler was treated here after being wounded during the Battle of the Somme (earning him the Iron Cross).  After WWII, the Soviets used it as a military hospital until the 1990's when it was abandoned.
