Basilica of El Pilar

Rising from the banks of the River Ebro as it passes through Zaragoza is the Basilica of Our Lady of the Pillar, a jewel of Aragonese Baroque art. The Temple houses the image of the Virgin of the Pillar. This was in fact the first church dedicated to the Virgin Mary in Christendom. For this reason, Zaragoza and Santiago de Compostela form the two fundamental pivots around which the spirituality of Spain revolves.
